ROCATD colleagues enjoyed a great morning of networking and discussion of Work Rules (Insights from Inside Google).  We'd recommend picking-up a copy of the book to read over the holidays.  Maybe you will get a couple ideas like we did to implement in 2017.

A couple thoughts from our discussion:

    • Founder mindset - taking responsibility for your environment
    • Culture eats strategy for breakfast
    • Hire smarter than you
    • Learning and development - chunk it and practice a lot
    • Googler to Googler (GtoG) - internal experts share their knowledge of work-related subject matter as well as non-work related topics = culture of learning.  Your best teachers are already inside your organization.
    • Culture of innovation, experimentation and analytics
    • Culture defined by mission and voice
    • 20% of every team member's time allocated to what they want to learn, teach and work on = creativity and innovation

If you have read or read the book, share your insights and thoughts with a post.  See everyone at our next ROCATD event or SIG meeting.

                - Follow up with potential members

Action item: Bob will update website with a summary and photos of the event.

                - Next steps

                - Look at (potential) board members’ natural talents/areas of strength

                - Clarify roles, responsibilities, and action items

Need time as a group to look at these in more detail. Catherine has strong natural talent with this type of detail.  We will all look over the checklist, not only to see where we are and understand the qualifications better, but also to determine which items we can each help make happen.

On first glance, we are doing much better: we have added Power Membership to the website and to a few of the email templates and we discuss it at meetings and bring it up at programs/events.

Katelyn and Amanda will take on Membership together.

We decided as a group that we will clarify board positions, roles, and responsibilities after we meet for our session to learn about the CARE requirements and how to use Wild Apricot (Onboarding).

Action item: Michelle L will schedule a time within the next two weeks to go over CARE Requirements and how to use Wild Apricot.

<Liaison to SIGs – still with Bob to transfer to another board position?

                            <Anything else?

Action item: Phil will reach out to a potential member (R J) about leading the Health Care SIG.

Action item: Bob will put out dates and officially begin the Coaching and Consulting SIG.

The theme for our Holiday Event will be SIGs. We will feature all SIGs and the goal is to have 5 active SIGs by May of 2017.

Would like to get a Higher Ed SIG and an eLearning SIG too.

Need a new leader for the OD SIG. Action item: Phil to call KB to get a list of the members from the OD SIG so we can reach out and find a new leader. Michelle L. possible interest in joining OD SIG.

    Crucial Conversations Training Opportunity

ROC ATD will be hosting a rare opportunity for ATD Members and guests to attend VitalSmarts’  Crucial Conversations© class.  The contents of this workshop, which will be facilitated by Michelle Lewis (Certified Crucial Conversations© and Crucial Accountability Trainer©), are based on the results of studying hundreds of highly influential individuals of all levels in various organizations.  Studies found that the single most identifiable skill in these individuals was their ability to navigate conversations with differing opinions, high stakes, and strong emotions. They were able to be completely candid and completely respectful when oftentimes, people feel that in order to get important information on the table, they must choose between the two.  The skills presented in this workshop are designed to help us create safety and stay in dialogue.

At $445 for members and $495 for guests, you will be able to fully experience this course at $950 less than a regular public session. That’s a 65% discount!

Stay tuned for the enrollment link and act fast. These seats won’t last.

    Chapter Affiliation Requirements

The ROC ATD Chapter failed to achieve compliance our 2015 - 2016 Chapter Affiliation Requirements (CARE).  CARE compliance was measured using the following indicators:
    • Joint membership requirement of 35% for individual chapters.
    • 50% joint membership goal to be measured in the aggregate (all chapters).
    • Joint membership activities added to requirements to help chapters plan for success.
    • Rewards program to recognize top three chapters in each size category with cash and complimentary registrations.

The CARE membership goal helps establish that members of the national organization and its chapters are part of the same organization with shared valuable resources and a shared compelling mission that effectively meets members’ professional development needs.

The impact of our failure to achieve our CARE compliance means we won’t receive accreditation and associated prizes including conferences and chapter funding. The BOD is disappointed in our failure to achieve our CARE compliance and are already taking measures to align our chapter for 2016 – 2017 compliance.

    Next BOD Meeting: 7/6/16
